LUCKY EQUALISER SECURES CHARITY CUP FOR NOMADS BUT £300 RAISED
Northop Hall Nomads retained the Charity Cup as a late cross sailed in to level the score in the second leg at 2-2, Old Boys going down 5-4 on aggregate. The two games raised a very creditable £300 towards the fund set up to help Russ Jones (formerly of Rhydymwyn Veterans) who has Motor Neurone Disease. A presentation was made to his son Steve after the match. Click here to see the full match report and Click here to see more photos (including some more presentations including the ladies at the Black Lion). For more details on the charity fund click on www.mold-born-boy.co.uk.

ANTHONY, KIERAN, PRITCH & STEVE SCOOP THE SEASON'S AWARDS
On a hugely successful Presentation Night at Northop Hall Cricket Club, the Player of the Season and Top Goalscorer trophies were picked up by Anthony Woosey, with Kieran Whelan just pipping him in the voting for Players' Player of the Season. Dave Pritchard earned the Manager's Player of the Season and Steve Bodey was awarded a richly deserved Club Man for 2008/09. Many thanks to everybody who supported us on the night and also for helping top up our charity fund for Breast Cancer by another £60.00.

BABY BOY FOR STRIKER MEL
Congratulations to Mel and Jane Barnes on the birth of their third child, a baby boy called Luke born this week slightly ahead of time. Mel's appearances have been restricted by work commitments and injury this season, but he's still bagged six goals in ten games. Now we know how he got that injury at the start of the season! Best wishes to all from everybody at the Club.

NARROW FIRST LEG DEFEAT IN CHARITY SHIELD
The Charity Shield first leg game with Northop Hall Nomads finished in a 2-3 defeat, decided by a highly contentious penalty decision in the second half.
Click here to see the full match report.

*******************************************************************************

FINAL GAMES FIXTURE CHANGES
Please note amendments to the end-of-season fixtures. The game with Woolton Veterans scheduled for May 23rd has been cancelled as all their pitches have had the posts taken down early. NOW CONFIRMED, we will be playing the second leg of the Charity Shield against Northop Hall Nomads on that day instead, the first leg of which is this Saturday May 9th. The chosen charity this year is to help a former Rhydymwyn Veterans player who has played several times against Northop Hall teams in the past and who has sadly developed motor neurone disease.
The Saturday following the presentation Night on the 15th is now a free day to recover from the night's excesses!!

*******************************************************************************

VALIANT DEFEAT SIGNALS END OF CUP RUN
A depleted Old Boys team came back from two goals down at Croft to lead at half-time in a desperate attempt to secure the win that would keep Sealand Cup hopes alive, but in the end the old legs succumbed 5-3 despite a really brave effort.

Wives, girlfriends, friends and family are welcome (over 16's only). Tickets are available from Dave Henrys.

SEALAND CUP STILL OPEN, BUT ...
The Sealand Cup group matches continued last weekend with a 3-1 victory for Waterside over Sandbach 2nds and a 2-2 draw between Liverpool Convocation and Warrington Croft that leaves Northop Hall Old Boys in second place on 4 points, ahead of both Convocation and Croft on goal difference. Waterside head the group on 7 points but Convocation have a game in hand on everyone else (they're still to play the group leaders). The mathematics get quite complicated but if Convocation beat Sandbach 2nds and draw their outstanding game with Waterside, they will go through with them. If Convocation win or lose against Waterside, victory at Warrington Croft on Saturday should be enough to squeeze the Old Boys through to the semi-finals. Croft will have similar aspirations but their goal difference is significantly worse and they would need a resounding win. It's shaping up to be a cracking finale! The other group looks really interesting too. Sandbach Vets entertain Halkyn in the final match on Saturday. A draw would be enough for both teams, as would a Sandbach win by anything less than 4 goals. However, a victory for Halkyn would see Northop Hall Nomads qualify. Full details are on the Sandbach United website -
click here to sort it out for yourselves!

*******************************************************************************

SWEET VICTORY FOR THE OLDER BOYS
Northop Hall Old Boys beat a much younger Rock Ferry Vets side 2-1 despite being under the cosh for much of the game.

VENUE CHANGE 25th APRIL - NOW A HOME GAME
Please note, the game against Rock Ferry Veterans on April 25th will now take place at Northop Hall. We had been hoping to book the Bebington Oval but it isn't available. We will try for that again next season, probably with a game under floodlights.

*******************************************************************************

TWO GOAL COMEBACK KEEPS CUP HOPES ALIVE
In a storming finish, the Old Boys came back from two goals down to force a draw with Waterside Old Boys that keeps the Sealand Cup group wide open.

*******************************************************************************

OLD BOYS EDGED OUT IN CLOSE FINISH
Northop Hall lost out by the odd goal in seven in a thrilling finish to the latest Sealand Cup game with Liverpool Convocation.

SEALAND CUP VENUE CHANGE / END-OF-SEASON PRESENTATION NIGHT
As Liverpool University's grounds, where Convocation play their home games, are closed for Easter holidays, Saturday's second Sealand Cup group match will now take place at Northop Hall with a 2:30 kick-off. We can also now confirm that the end of season Presentation Night will be on Friday 15 May at Northop Hall Cricket Club. Entry will be by ticket only. Prices and sales points will be announced shortly.

FIXTURE CHANGES / SEALAND CUP DATES / CHARITY SHIELD
Our entry into the Sealand Cup has meant some revisions to the fixture list with group games scheduled for Saturdays 4th, 11th & 18th of April and 2nd of May. We are aware that the game at Liverpool Convocation falls on Easter Saturday, so that may be moved to midweek yet. An extra game has been added to accommodate a request from new team Rock Ferry Vets with the original fixture at Woolton now scheduled as the end of season match.

We have provisionally put in two games against Northop Hall Nomads to contest the Charity Shield first played for last season between Nomads (holders) and Northop Hall Veterans (now disbanded) to raise money for good causes. The dates coincide with the semi-finals and final of the Sealand Cup so will need revising if either club retains an involvement in the competition after the group stages. Click here to view the revised fixture list

*******************************************************************************

TRIUMPH FOR EXPERIENCE OVER YOUTH
The Old boys avenged early season defeat in Liverpool with a resounding 6-2 victory over the youngsters of Saint Seniors, with Anthony Woosey bagging another four goals.
Click here to see the full match report.

*******************************************************************************

SEALAND CUP DRAW MADE
The Sealand Cup group games have been drawn. The Old Boys will be playing Sandbach 2nds and Waterside at home and Warrington Croft and Liverpool Convocation away.
Click here to see details on the Sandbach Utd Vets website. Note the requirement on age which leaves us well covered from our current squad. We will be arranging actual fixture dates shortly with some rearranging of current dates required. Keep checking back for updates.

*******************************************************************************

BABY BOOM CONTINUES WITH SECOND MATT
Hot on the heels of Matt Lucas, many congratulations to Matt & Hannah McGuire on the birth of their son Jamie Shay last Tuesday, March 17th. Mum and baby are doing well. Hope Matt got some decent sleep before they came home. It could be a while before we see him fresh and fit!

Diary date: This coming Thursday, March 12th, Charity Football Quiz, kicking off at 9:00 pm at the Black Lion, Northop Hall - all welcome. Proceeds to Breast Cancer Charity (as nominated by referee Ady Goss in lieu of ref's fee).

LOCAL DERBY TO REPLACE DENBIGH FIXTURE
Denbigh Wanderers Veterans are unable to fulfil their fixture with us on Saturday 14th March. By coincidence Northop Hall Nomads have also been let down by Bedford Argyle, so we are able to help each other out with a first "local derby" since the Old Boys were formed. Kick off will be 2:30 p.m. Match report will follow as usual.

*******************************************************************************

FOUR MORE AS WINNING RUN CONTINUES
The Old Boys notched up another 4-1 win to brush aside the youngsters from Stationmasters with another excellent performance.

*******************************************************************************

OLD BOYS IN SEALAND CUP INVITE
Northop Hall Old Boys have been invited to take part in the end-of-season Sealand Cup. The format is to have two groups of 5 teams playing each other once on a league basis with the top two teams going through to the semi-finals. Other teams confirmed as taking part include holders Sandbach Utd Vets, Sandbach Vets 2nds, Northop Hall Nomads, Halkyn Vets, Wirral Vets. Liverpool Convocation and Warrington Croft. Games will take place in April and will replace original fixtures once we have played Woolton on April 4th. Full details to follow. You can also follow the competition on the Sandbach United website (has a brief match report from last week's game against us too).
Click here to link through. We have set five dates aside (two midweek to avoid Easter weekend) but in a group of 5, one of the dates will be a blank. Keep checking back here for updates.

STATIONMASTERS STEP IN
Sandbach Vets 2nds have been unable to raise a team for Saturday 28th February, so many thanks to Stationmasters, the part-time team from Buckley who we played last December, for stepping in to play us at Northop Hall (Kick off 3:00 p.m.). Match report will follow as usual.

*******************************************************************************

CLASSY PERFORMANCE REAPS REWARD
Putting last week's debacle behind them, Northop Hall produced a terrific performance to inflict a rare defeat on Eastham Vets in a game switched to Port Sunlight as the home pitch was unplayable. Despite surrendering a 4-0 lead, the Old Boys held on to record a very pleasing 4-3 victory.

*******************************************************************************

OLD BOYS HAMMERED IN LIVERPOOL
A poor performance by the Old Boys at Waterside ended in a heavy 9-3 defeat against a team that again had a number of youngsters amongst them, which didn't help.

OLD BOYS BACK TO WINNING WAYS AT SANDBACH
The rearranged game at Sandbach 2nds saw the Old Boys capitalise on a great start to the game and keep out a second half onslaught against the wind to record a first win for three months.
Click here to see the full match report.

*******************************************************************************

BIG FREEZE SEES OFF IRBY GAME
Heavy overnight frost has frozen the home pitches solid and forced the cancellation of the game with Irby C.C. Veterans. Hoping for better luck next week in the rearranged game at Sandbach.

*******************************************************************************

CHRISTMAS TAKES ITS TOLL WITH NARROW DEFEAT
The rearranged game at Bedford Argyle (Bebington) found out those who over-indulged on the mince pies at Christmas. A 2-1 defeat was closer than it should have been with Old Boys keeper Steve Davies back and in fine form.
Click here to see the full match report.

*******************************************************************************

LATE CALL OFF FOR BEDFORD ARGYLE GAME
The heavy overnight rain has forced a late postponement of the last game of the year, away at Bedford Argyle (Bebington) with the pitch waterlogged. However, as both clubs have a free date, it has been rearranged for JANUARY 3rd - see fixtures below. We now have a complete set of fixtures for 2009 through to the end of April.

*******************************************************************************

LATE GOALS DENY OLD BOYS AGAINST YOUNG BOYS IN MUDLARK STALEMATE
Two late goals from the young lads from Stationmasters denied the Old Boys victory as Ant and Dec had them firmly ahead. The game finished 3-3 in the mud as the home team ran out of fit players.
Click here to see the full match report.

*******************************************************************************

SANDBACH GAME FALLS FOUL OF THE WEATHER
Heavy rain at Middlewich has led to the postponement of December's first game, due to be away to Sandbach Utd. Veterans 2nds. However, as both clubs have a free date, it has been rearranged for JANUARY 17th - see fixtures below.

*******************************************************************************

OLD BOYS RUE 'MIST' CHANCES

A spirited fightback from four-nil down against a very young Saint Seniors team in Liverpool saw the Old Boys get back to 2-4, before time ran out on the comeback.

BUBBLE BURSTS WITH MID-WEEK DEFEAT

A new kit has been supplied, courtesy of Eifion Jones and the Green Thumb franchise (click the logo above for more details). We have had fantastic publicity from the Evening Leader (August 5th) who even picked up on the story in their editorial! A couple of useful players have already been added to the playing roster as a result. Click here to see the press coverage.

*******************************************************************************

Pre-season friendly result from Monday 11 August v. Moneysupermarket FC - a comprehensive 8-3 defeat, but it was only in the latter part of the game that the young lads from the Ewloe-based website took advantage of their age and superior fitness. Before that, a hat-trick from Mel Barnes had kept the Old Boys well and truly in the game, and had Richard Moore been able to convert a gilt-edged opportunity to seal the game at 4-4 halfway through the second half, it may have been a different outcome even. Click here to see the full match report.
